Evening Lessons
Costs: Members - $34.00 per sessions
Non-Members - $68.00 per session

We will accept a maximum of six students per class. If a class has an instructor aide in addition to the regular instructor, we will use our discretion to make provision for extra students. We allow more students in the Waterbabies and Aquatots programs because parents are also in the water. All instructors and instructor aides have earned American Red Cross certifications.
 
 
 
Private Lessons
Private lessons are conducted one-on-one with instructors who are nationally WSI certified . If you would like private lessons, please contact the aquatics director at 515/967-0788, Ext. 227.

American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard Training

Cost of course: $95 Members/$135 Non-members (Payment due upon successful completion of pre-requisites.)
Participants must be 15 years of age by the last day of the course, and able to swim 500 yards (20 lengths), non-stop, and be able to swim each of the following strokes; Freestyle, (200yds), Breaststroke, (100yds), Alternate Freestyle and Breaststroke for the final 200yds.

Participants MUST attend every class in its entirety and successfully pass all necessary written and practical tests in order to receive certification in Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and C.P.R. for the Professional Rescuer.

Participants must be 17 years of age by the first day of the course, and able to successfully demonstrate/perform the following; crawl stroke, breaststroke, backstroke, side-stroke, butterfuly stroke, elementary backstroke, and basic rescue techniques. Participants must also pass a short written test.

Participants must attend all classes and successfully pass all written and practical tests. Assignments and home study materials are also included.

Successful participants will become American Red Cross certified swim instructors able to teach infant and preschool programs, all levels of the Learn to Swim Program, adult swim lessons, water safety programs, adpated programs, safety training for swim coaches and W.S.I.A. programs.

S.C.U.B.A. Certification
Matt Leydens of Leydens Dive Shop introduces a whole new underwater world in this exciting course. A mask, fins and snorkel are required for this class. Contact Matt Leydens at 288-6312 for more information or to register.

Special Needs Swimming
A program of swim lessons and recreational activities designed for pre-school and elementary school children. A parent or another responsible adult is required to be in the water with each child.

The instructor for this program is a special needs teacher in the community and is WSI certified. Any assistance provided to the instructor will come from another certified WSI or one of our certified WSIAs. We have a specially designed disabled locker room that can be shared if necessary. This room and the main pool are wheelchair accessible and a water wheelchair is available.
Cost: $10.00

Rehabilitation
We offer one-on-one specialized instruction for those who have recently had joint replacement, reconstructive or other surgery and those who have developed a temporary or permanent disability. Altoona Campus Aquatics staff members have also assisted individuals with problems related to strokes, accidents, and sports injuries.
Costs: 30 minutes of one-on-one instruction: $20.00
One week of unsupervised rehabilitation: $10.00
One month of unsupervised rehabilitation: $40.00
The weekly and monthly options are offered only with written consent from a physician. Please contact the Aquatics Director for further information.
 
Competitive Swim Programs: Altoona Swim Club
Competitive swim club for children 7-17 years of age that will compete in the Two Rivers Conference and the Central Hawkeye Conference. Home meets are conducted at the SEP High School. Practices are conducted at Altoona Campus.

Stroke Correction Clinic
This program is available to participants of the Altoona Swim Club. It offers one-on-one instruction in the specific strokes and skills required to participate as a member of the competitive program.

Please contact your coach, as his recommendation will be helpful in determining which skills to improve. If this is not possible, contact the aquatic director in order to arrange a skills screening. This class will be conducted by one of our swim coaches.
